 Cardiovascular Risk
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been the dominant cause of death in Australia for many
decades, with coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke ranking high among leading causes
of death. CVD accounts for more than 46,000 deaths annually in Australia, and 3.7 million
Australians have a long-term cardiovascular disease (AIHW 2008).
If you know your blood pressure and cholesterol then you can use the calculator below to calculate your chances
of developing CVD over the next 5 years. If you know your total cholesterol but not your HDL then use "1" for the HDL value. You can also see the effect of e.g. stopping smoking or a lower cholesterol by redoing your calculation changing these variables.
