Womens' Health
At CCMC we provide the full range of women's healthcare.
Cervical Screening Test
The Cervical Screening Test (CST) has replaced the old Pap smear test. It detects the high-risk strains of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) which cause the majority of cervical cancers. As it is more accurate the routine screening frequency is now 5 years (the Pap smear was every 2 years). The procedure however is essentially the same - a plastic speculum is placed in the vagina allowing the doctor to visualize the cervix and take the sample. Swabs for common STIs such as chlamydia and gonorrhoea can be taken at the same time.
Breast health
BreastScreen WA provides free screening mammograms to Western Australian women 40 years or over with no breast symptoms every two years. It is important to check your breasts for lumps and, if you find any or have other breast symptoms such as pain or nipple discharge to see your GP to be examined and probably referred on for further tests.
Contraception
There is a wide range of contraceptive options to choose from including pills, vaginal rings, injections and implants. Leaflets about these are available from our health information page. CCMC can provide all forms of contraception (apart from vasectomy/tubal ligation)
Sexual Health Checks
